Topping-out ceremony of the World Conference Center Bonn
A celebration for the completion of structural work on the Congress building and the 18-story hotel was held on Friday, September 19, 2008.
The construction site is located in the former government district with a size of 24.000 m². Since the laying of the foundation stone in May 2007, more than 51.000 m³ of concrete and 9.200 tons of steel have been used. The “crystal”, an impressive steel-glass construction, covers the 2700 m² foyer.
The mayor of Bonn, Bärbel Dieckmann, and the NRW-minister Armin Laschet were present at the ceremony. They emphasized the significance of the World Conference Center for the city of Bonn as well as the Nordrhein-Westfalen region as a place for international conferences and UN-conventions.
